YES! I AM an idiot-What kind of DVD rom do I have?

new pc has dvd rom drive in it but i dont know what kind it is.

windows just found it as an "unkown device".

the front of the dvd rom just says "DVD rom"

anyone know how i can find drivers for it?

atapi devices do not need drivers. it's some other device, not the dvd-rom windows finds.

Well, the first thing would be to see if it shows up in bios. If bios recognizes all the drives correctly, then you need to check out device manager. What do you have under dvd- cd- drives. If it shows up there, it works fine.
Usually unknown devices know something about themselves, see the unknown devices properties.

arghhhhh, no it hasnt worked since i put the HD in.

windows 98.

the cdrom wont work either, both roms power on and open but dont show up in My Computer.

check your cables maybe you bumped one and it is not seated corectly . iv done that before, drove me nuts for a bit

or maybe i hooked the cables up wrong??, cause i made sure both drives cables were tiiiiight...man, its been so long since i worked on a PC.

ok, they both show up in the BIOS but not in windows.

says its a hitachi dvd rom.
