Hardware questions...

I am thinking of reinstalling Mandrake 9.2 on my new box...dual with WinXP...

now... I am wondering about hardware issues with the d/l version of 9.2

Is there going to be any issues with the following setup?

AMD xp2500 Barton
MB - Biostar M7NCD Pro with the nvidia chipset....
512 mb PC 3200 matched mem
WD 80 gig SE HDD
Maxtor 60 gig HDD
Liteon 401S DVDRW
Verbatim (Liteon) CDRW
MSI FX5600 VTDR128 VIVO card
1394 Firewire Card..
I am anxious to get into Linux again... I want to try to wean myself away from the norm

All of the hardware you have listed should be well supported but I can't say about your firewire card, I know Linux supports fw but I've never used it and don't know if every fw chip is supported.

hmm.... few things not listed.....

Well, I could try and see what happens...

Is there another distribution that might be better....Redhat seems to have even less hardware listed...

Well sometimes if they are not listed, they are still supported but not a 100% you need to google it a bit.

Lots of things will work that aren't listed as being supported. They only list what they've managed to test. If it isn't supported you could probably add support with a simple kernel recompile.
I don't see any problems with that system. I can't speak for the firewire as I've never used it though. Everything looks fine. Mandrake is probably the best free distro as far as hardware detection and support goes. I'd just throw it on there, and sort out any problems later (if there are any)
