winXP help Detecting pci NIC 1st

I replaced my onboard nic with a pci type nic . Whenever winXP boots up , I try to go to the internet it posts message no path to the internet , try again ? And it works . winXP is trying to go online with the onbard nic 1st . I disabled the onboard realtek nic in the device manager but it would not let me uninstall the drivers.
The pci nic works great on second try but this is somewhat annoying .
Any cures greatly appreciated , thanks .

Can you disable it in the BIOS?

Do you need to go to network connections and delete that old connection?
