I Need A Good Ripper
1) Something for my Win32 flavored desktop.
2) Would prefer something that could encode mp3, ogg, and maybe even aac.
3) Must be capable of 192-320kbps.
4) Must be free! =)
Suggestions?
Thanks all,
Kaziah

CDex is a favorite for many, plus it is open source. It supports many audio formats via various encoding engines: WAV, MP3, OGG, VQF, APE, etc. http://cdexos.sourceforge.net/

Have you tried iTunes? It makes ripping albums very easy and sorts them with standard tags quite nicely.

Nope, I sure haven't. I know very little about it, except that it's a very popular Apple app that's now available for Win32.
Can you rip songs from your CDs or only download?
If you can, what formats are supported besides aac, and what bitrates?
Oh, and what copy protection/restrictions does it place on songs that you rip?
Thanks,
Kaziah

I have ripped all of my CDs over to AAC but you can use AAC, AIFF, or MP3 at any bitrate you choose. I have not figured out if it is possible to use an external plugin though. I know nothing about the copy protections though.

Sounds pretty sweet. I'll have to check it out sometime. I'd like to check out some of the online music stores sometime too. Do any of you know if they're offering higher quality songs now? The last I looked, 128kbps was all I could find. If I was going to pay for a song online, I'd really rather get high quality, and then if I needed a more portible file size, I could slim it down. I usually use 192-256kbps, depending on where I'll be using it and the space I'll have there.
Anyway... in the mean time, this CDex is killer! It's just what I was looking for!
Thanks all!
Kaziah

iTunes? Bleh..
I'd either go with with CDEX like RobRich said or get EAC (Exact Audio Copy).
