Virus scan won't install

I have an older PC with Windows 98 Plus edition.
It had an older version of a virus scan loaded with the windows.

Well what I wanted to do was update to a newer version which I have on a disc.
During the install it said I had to unistall the older version before it would install.
Well there was no option to uninstall so I just deleted all the files and thought that would work. Still having problems. Won't install.
Any way around this?
Thanks,

DLH

McAfee 7.0 is what I want to install. The other was an older version of McAfee from 98

Did you also clean out all the entries left behind in the Registry? Often times just deleting the files in explorer is not enough. McAfee is well known for leaving lots of trails behind.

If you haven't cleaned the registry of McAfee's stuff I suggest to do that before installing and before cleaning BACK UP YOUR REGISTRY first incase you accidently delete wrong keys. This way you can restore it.

I didnt do that Neo. Funny how it didn't have an option to uninstall. Which would have been so much easier.
First how do I access the registry and second how to save?

I fixed it guys thanks.
I did what you suggested John and did a google search. Found the solution. You guys here allways come thru thanks again.

BTW This was an older PC that was given to me from my boss. Glad I updated to a newer VS because it allready found 3 Trojans maybe more. Still doing a scan as I still type. Will this completly remove these problems or will I need to do something more. Found another one. This isn't looking good.
