Kids Used SpyBot, but they're back

I did the Spybot thing last night, cleaned out all this really weird stuff I picked-up from somewhere. Well, everything was all nice and clean, then I visited only two sites on the web, here and newegg and got two spy files back. One was "Commission Junction" and the other was "Avenue A."

Both are marketing spyware, does anyone know anything about these spy files? like where they came from? how harmful they are (what info are they collecting and using it for)?

Remove them, scan and clean, then visit each site one at a time and scan. You can thus find out what each site does to you.

Are clicking on any links while on these sites?

Ads or such.

After you did the scan, you could have been required to restart to remove some of the spyware. If you didnt restart, maybe you should.

The "Commision Junction and Avenue A" entries you're seeing are more than likely just cookies that are loaded upon viewing a webpage. You'll need to use a program such as pest patrol (I think the new version of Zone Alarm can be configured for this as well) to block those cookies, although the page may not want to load if you do. Alternately, you can go to internet options and delete cookies after viewing those sites.

That takes awhile. Anyway, brought up the browser, minimized it, cleaned (scanned), then went to Newegg. Ran scan, nothing.

Brought up the browser again, went to TechIMO, didn’t get Commission Junction, but got Avenue A. Not a good test though ‘cause I brought up the browser screen before I went to ‘IMO.

Brought up the browser again, minimized it, then cleaned then went to ‘IMO… nothing! OK, it must be coming from MSN Home page.

Shut down browser, but stayed on-line, cleaned… brought up browser… nothing!

…. Oh well, can't spend any more time on it.

thx for your input!!!!
