burning problem (what a generic title :))

There's this computer, Compaq something, running w2kserver sp4.
Burning drive is hp 100j (or whatever it is they label their dvd+rw drives), and the program is Easy cd creator 6.

Whenever I try to burn a dvd+r session with the drive, it doesn't burn. It just says something about filewriteerror or something.
I looked around and found out aspi is not installed, the drive is running is pio mode and nero infotool doesn't find any drives.
I installed aspi and changed the mode to dma, but the error persists.

So I went on, and removed roxio, put nero instead. At the beginning of nero installation process, it says 'some files on your system are too old, do you wish to replace the files', to which I answered yes. After nero installation was completed, nero infotool finds my drives.

I then went to remove nero, but it obviously restored the replaced files because afterwards infotool could not find the drives.

What could be those files that are too old, I need to replace them manually. Our company has licences to roxio, not ahead, so I can't use nero on it

//edit: Oh, and another oddity there is. I can only burn in session writing mode when writing a data disc. I cannot burn dao, or finalize disc. Only available option is session burning and close session, do not close disc.
What's up with that?

Here's a screencapture of what eventviewer has to say when trying to burn.
