Athlon XP 2200

I just built my first computer, a AMD Athlon XP 2200 with a 1.8ghz processor chip. I would really like to get it up to 2.0ghz. If anyone else has this same MB which is the ASUS A7N8X could you please let me know if you OC yours and if i will be able to get it to 2.0ghz and still have a stable system.

just locate your reset CMOS jumper, get familiar with how to use it, and give overclocking a try. If it doesn't boot... reset cmos.

I've got a similar setup, here's the details:

Athlon XP 2200+
Asus A7N8X Deluxe 2.0
OCZ PC3200 DDR (256 x 2, Dual Mode)
ThermalTake Volcano 9 (OCZ Silver thermal paste)
ThermalTake Smart case fans (front and rear)
Heat sink on the Northbridge (attached with thermal tape)
Deer 300w power supply (cheap, but AMD approved)
Rounded IDE and floppy cables

The best I've been able to get so far is 1.921 Ghz stable (166 FSB, 11.5 Multiplier). Last time I tried the 12 Multiplier I could get into the BIOS but the machine wouldn't load Windows XP.

I changed the memory timings from 2-3-3-7 to 2-3-3-11 but haven't tried to get the 12 Multiplier yet. Dunno if that'll make the difference. With all the cooling measures I've taken you'd think I could easily get a higher clock but it hasn't happened yet

I've got a Lian Li PC65B and an Antec or Enermax PSU in mind for future upgrades... maybe that'll help to get it past the 11.5 barrier?

A or B core?

1.91-93 Ghz is all you can get to if its an A.

Ahh... that would explain it then, it's an A core. Thanks for the info Still planning for the Lian Li and better PSU though as an Athlon XP 2500+ is also in the works, heh.

There are methods of unlocking the 2200A's Multipliers but they are risky as hell. I fryed a 2100+ doing this cause the wire touched another pin so if you do this, be extremely carefull.

Here is the easiest way! there is another way but it requires some supply's.

Afaik, the nForce 2 chipset on the A7N8X automatically unlocks the multipliers for the 2200+ and the other chips as well. I can select several higher multipliers in the BIOS, it just won't load Windows at 12x and won't boot at 12.5x or higher. Does this mean the 2200+ can somehow be further unlocked, or is this mod for use with those boards that don't unlock the multipliers automatically?

Somone correct me if I am wrong but regardless of mobo, the Tbred A is locked.

If what I say it true then you have a B.

Hmm... not sure. If it is a T-bred A and is therefore locked, the nForce2 board unlocked it, allowing me to go from stock 133FSB x 13.5 = 266FSB/1800 mhz to 166FSB x 11.5 = 333FSB/1921 mhz. I'm definately getting a respectable overclock but it won't go to 333FSB/2.x ghz (166FSB x 12 or 12.5). I might be able to get it to 2.x ghz, but not at 333FSB.
