Recommend a DVD-RW drive.

My mom wants me to take ALL her VHS tapes and make DVD's.

That is a very large quest to embark on. The first thing I have to do is buy a DVD burner. MaximumPC had a great article on how to do what I am doing, so I will use it, but the burners the recommended (months ago) are now absolete.

So, what burner would you recommend?

Just needs to get the job done. Can't think of many other requirements.

We have a very "off-brand" DVD player, so would getting a higher chance of these movies actually working rely more on the burner, or the media?

thx!

See here for DVD-player media compatibility

http://www.dvdrhelp.com/dvdplayers.p...l+Alphabetical

typically (overgeneralization) the newer players read the +rw but the older ones dont as much. -RW is a slightly older media than the +RW I think

Pioneer 106d is great DVD dual format... quiet and reliable, probably why Sony uses them in their Vaio computers.

Newegg has a deal on 'em right now $131 w/free shipping.
