Killing Print Jobs

I am posting this question here as I think it is an OS problem. There are times when my HP 952 printer will not delete a printing job. Printer settings box says it is deleting but it never clears. The printer lights begin to flash and if I try to reset or resume I get odd characters printed along the top portion of the page. I have tried rebooting and turning the computer off but when I resume the printer is still indicating that the print job is deleting. In other words it hangs.
I am looking for a way to kill this process through Task Manager if that is possible or just another solution. I can't test it now because I don't have the problem but I am sure it will occur again.
OS is XP Pro
Hp 952C with up to date drivers that are reinstalled.
Thanks

Try This
*******

Start/Run/Net stop spooler - This stops the spooler subsystem
2) Start/Run/Spool - This will open an explorer window at <windows>\system32\spool
3) Open the printers folder in the above window
4) Delete anything present in this folder - this will delete any pending print jobs
5) Start/Run/Net start spooler - This will re-start the spooler subsystem

What if you:
1) unplugged the printer
2) Deleted the printer from the printers control panel
3) Removed the driver from computer management/device manager
4) Shut down computer, I would run it once w/out the drivers or printer
5) shut down again, restart, plug in the printer
6) Let it auto detect and install drivers
7) Install in printers control panel, if it didn't automatically

Netgeek, I paused a print job midway and used your first suggestion. That seemed to work this time. When I opened the folder for the printer there were 2 files there and one was a shockwave file. I wonder how that is associtated with printing.

When I run into that prob on my comp, I will delete the print job, then also shut off the printer. It works every time.

Atomic Rooster I have tried that and also disonnecting the power and parallel cord and then restarting the computer and the print job is still in the deleting stage upon return.

In your printer properties on the "Advanced" tab uncheck the "Enable Advanced Printing Features". I had the same problem and I found this solution on M$ web site. This will prevent the problem in the future.
