Best Laptop Company????
Well here comes the moment of truth ... it is time for an upgrade .. not just yet, but in the deciently near future and i was hoping someone could help me out in my selection ... now i know exactly what specs i want and have shopped around betweent he companies for what prices are and worked all that out ... but my big question is .... what manufacturer??? in my opinion Compaq is out, HP used to be my favorite desktop manufacturer around until they made the bad choise to buy out Compaq, i own an IBM ThinkPad as of now and love it but the new TP i configured on their website wasn't able to be customized as completely as i had hoped ... i have been looking at Dell and i like that i can pick everything i wanted, gateway ... eh' they were ok, but i have heard bad things about gateway as a company, i also looked at toshiba and was content with their setup as well and i heard was an excellent company ...... but back to the main question ... which one is known for quality laptops?

Since you're pretty gung-ho on being able to configure everything exactly how you want it, I'd go with Dell.

You have opened a big ol' can a worms with this question. I have no personal experience with owning any laptop, but I can tell you what my clients tell me. That is, the way to go is Toshiba because of their reliability and customer service. I have had too many client buy their next toshiba lappy saying that the only reason they are upgrading their 8 year old lappy is that it cant run any of the new software.
Hope this helps. Do some more research and listen to what people say about their own experiences. And then make the best, informed choice for YOU.

I've had my Dell Inspiron 1100 for almost a year now and I use it for hours every day. Never had a single hitch. It's been flawless. (Knock, knock)
I've always been a big Dell fan, though. I've never had any problems with their tech support, but I've had loads of great experiences. (I used to run a large Dell-equipped department.)

I love the dell I just bought, 5100. Great ballance between price and preformance. I can play UT2003 smooth @ 1024*768 with details at medium. Its a 2.4Ghz P4, 512MB RAM, 64MB ATI 7500
I would be looking @ Dell and Toshiba my self. If you really want to customize look at Sager as well. And if you can spend extra cash www.voodoopc.com makes some wicked Laptops and desktops. Go look around Dell and Toshibas help forums and see what people have to say about the products. See if there are any big problems with the model that you want to buy. Also check out epinions.com and see what people there have to say Hope something works for ya

well i did build the laptop i want with voodoo and alienware during my original search, but sadly their prices came up too high ...... the only reason i am being swayed away from the toshiba is because they only offer nVidia graphix cards and i am a major Intel+ATI supporter, Dell seems to be a good candidate, but i was told that they were having major issues with some laptop series and are having troubl regaining their good rep in the laptop market (granted i was told this by a Gateway user ... sooo i dunno how reliable the info is) the IBM ThinkPad is being held in high regaurds with me due to personaly experience because i have a IBM ThinkPad 133MHz Pentium and an IBM ThinkPad PentiumII 366MHz that still run wounderfully, just too slow for todays world and i would like to be able to stick a decient graphics card in a lappy for some gaming, cuz i will be taking this laptop to college with me
