Max lengh for USB cable?

Hi, I want to extend a USB cable so whats the max lengh it can be before the signal goes. Its only to for a joypad or a mouse.

Five meters, I'm told. Can't imagine needing five meters worth of cable for a joystick.

Its so I can install a pc in a ht room and install a usb socket near the sofa so I can plug my gamepad if Iwanted a game of something.

I'm not quite following what you mean, but as long as your cable isn't longer than five meters, you're good. Or if you put a repeater at the end, you can go with more cables. But I'm guessing if you're plugging a joystick in to play, the computer will be in the same room and you should be fine.

Its just so that I don`t have cables running on the floor when I could install a usb socket in the florr or wall or something. But won`t be more than 5 meters so I should be ok.
