Slow Comp

All of the sudden my friends comp got really slow and it takes a long time to load stuff up. Also, randomly a timer comes up and gives him a minute till shutdown, like msblaster. He is running windows xp and I think he got a virus, any tips?

Quite possible he has a virus.

Have him go Here and do thier online free virus scanner to rule out any virues.

Also can check if he has any spyware by using Lavasofts Adaware

Also check out his start up and see if he has programs running that need nto to be running, this will increase his boot times a bit.

Do the scans and then post back of what he finds.

I have ran Spybot, Ad-Aware, AVG Antivirus, and have diabled all start up things. Spybot and Ad-Aware got rid of lots of spyware but it is still deathfully slow. I will try that TrendMicro thing after I'm done "Cleaing the Disc" and pver night I will defragment it.

Is that TrendMicro scanner fast and up to date?

Also, it's very wierd It takes a long time to open up a program but once it actually gets it open it isn't that slow.

TrendMicro is up and running and I have found one virus and it sounds like it could be cauin the problem. It is named "HKTL PROCKILL.A" sounds like something that could lag up his sytem. TrendMicro says it is uncleanable but do you think thier is an alternative?
