i read about couple of headphones and there was written that they were open back design? doesn't it mean that everyone around can hear what i'm listening too?

Well, kinda. An open back design allows for more airflow resulting in a richer sound with clear highs and deeper bass.

Read some articles there. Open phones are "open-air". The enclosures merely place the drivers next to your ears and direct the sound into them. They let sound out and in very easily. Closed headphones isolate you from the outiside world but don't usually sound as good as open phones.
