ok, So why wont this card fit??

I just went out and got a ATI Radeon 9600 SE....and it will not fit in my AGP card slot. The card has the slot in the wrong place. In fact, my old Gforce card has 2 slots, so it fit in just fine.

Thanks for your replies.

Martin

It's the wrong voltage for your mobo.

Some are stamped wrong from the manufacturer. Do you have a Dremel tool?

is it this card?

I really do not understand what you mean by "my old Gforce card has 2 slots".

I see from the pic at the above link that there is a overhang at the back edge of the connector. That prevents you from pluging into incombatible socket.

What mobo do you have?

edit: I see. Makes sense. J-Excel has the right info.

ok!

J-Excel's link above is what the problem is.... A picture can tell 1000 words. I guess I have the wrong Voltage mother board.

I a thinking that from that picture, I would need to use a card that is NOT 1.5 campatible????

I will need to get a card that is a Universal AGP card.

You guys have been a HUGE help. Thanks all!

Out of curiosity - since I know that the 9600 is not compatible with my hardware, What are my options?

Thanks,

Martin

Also, based on this link - http://www.ati.com/products/radeon96...o/gallery.html

The Picture of the XT card would not work.
But the picture of the PRO card would work.

Am I making any sense? Or am I on crack....?

It would be cheaper for you to consider changing your Motherboard.

The "slots" you refer to are the voltage compatibility keys. So if your mainboard has the corresponding tab in the wrong place, your card is electrically incompatible.

Radeon 9600 uses 1.5V signalling ONLY, while your old card was "universal: using either 1.5V or 3.3V signalling depending on what mainboard it's on. Your mainboard seems to be 3.3V-only.

Stick that dremel back into its box.
