so ...what's this little green thing ??

I'd probably get a faster answer if I posted a picture but ....

Anyway there is this little green shiny thing that interupts the red wire on the case fans of this new case I bought. It has some letters and numbers on it ... "TTC 050" ....

Ideas ? Think it's a sensor or a resistor ?? Looks kind of like a small transistor .... but only with two wires ???

The second part of my question .... can this interfere with a fan speed controler ?

I think you are right. It sounds like it is a thermal control device. It could prevent your fans from reaching full speed, but it should not interfer with a fan speed controller either.

I was reading the directions .....

I hate doing that Oh ~ the shame of it all

Anyway .... they said - (and I quote) ~ "Nexus fan controller is only recommended for constant speed fans. Do NOT use on any CPU Fans, thermal controlled fans, or adjustable speed fans."

If these green thingys are thermal controls, and I use this Nexus Fan Controller anyway .... What do I run the risk of ruining ~ the thermal device or the fan?

You need not warn me about the obvious, I just want to keep the case and it's 8 fans reasonably quiet, while still cooling the case adequately.

Thanx for your replies !!

.... or maybe the nexus fan controller would be at risk ..... any feedback would be nice ..... I'm near the end of this build .... It's been a while since I did a "ground-up" build and I'd hate to burn out these fans .... they certainly are quiet now .... much more so than the ones you get of the parts shelf.

Had a smilar thing on a Zalman 90 mm fan. It was like an extension, but with an in line resistor. The fan would then run at approx 7 volts, still contsant speed.

My best guess would be to eliminate it, wire it direct to the controller, to get the full range of the fan.

that little green shiny thing that interrupts the red wire on the case fans is called a thermistor...a temperature sensitive resistor...that changes value when the device it is attached to, or surrounding area air changes temperature.

It can be removed by simply cutting the two wires and twisting them together...soldering them and taping them up afterwords is also a good idea.

Yep , sure beats a meltdown of the thermistor AND the controller!!

you mean ....

You mean I could have a meltdown of the thermistor AND the controller ??? ( and then of course the "dominoes" would keep falling ..... and then I'd really be up a creek !!!!

Thanks for the warning .... I'll get to snipping, soldering and taping before going any further.
