IBM plans to run Linux on.......
their new supercomputer. Blue Gene/L. IBM says it is going to be the fastest computer, able to do 360 teraflops.
All on Linux. Pretty neat. http://www.eweek.com/article2/0,4149,1382856,00.asp |

IBM has always liked Linux from the start and this will show how Linux can be as powerful as most operating systems available. I am glad a huge company like IBM chose Linux as their choice for this.

I just can't understand why IBM doesn't want to use an MS product to run their super computer -what with being so user friendly and all, and so many choices of wallpaper and themes... you mean Data Center Server can't handle all the multitude of super computer CPUs and a mountain of memory?
Why I though Linux could only cluster..... |

Why I though Linux could only cluster..... | Yeah data center was developed so that you could have the pretty wallpaper with the snow covered trees in the mountains on your server and still be able to go on aim at the same time. LOL

So, could Linux handle that kind of set with the current kernel or is 2.6 going to be the only solution.

IBM is a long time supporter of Linux, hence the M$ funded SCO attack on them.
We run Linux on one of our old S390 mainframe partitions, at work. (serious computing power) |
