Blank Screen

I am running windows xp.When I boot up, the boot process starts where the usual memory test shows on the screen first. The window xp logo as normal fills the screen and then the screen goes blank .I have tried repeatedly approx.20 times to reseat the video graphics card, stiil the screen goes blank during boot up. I tried using a miniprojector as the output screen but still the boot process is cut short.I am able to go into the bios which allows me to navigate all menus . I am not able to boot in safe mode.Where else need I look for the solution?

Do you have the original disk for XP? If so, try a repair.

Also, try a logged boot? Hit F8 before the startup screen, pick from the options.

What other devices do you have attached to your rig?

Have you had any events predating the current problem, i.e.; a newly installed device/program, a reinstall, possible virus problems?

If your getting into the menus and seeing the Win startup screen, that makes me doubt there is a problem with the video card.

I did try to install/plug in a new belkin switch so that I could have identical displays on two monitors. That's the only predating event.Coulde that have afected the display. The switch has ports for I/O monitor & PS/2 mouse keyboard and ports for two others A and B.

Is it still installed?

If so, I'd remove it and see if that is the problem.

You can also try pressing F8 after POST and choosing VGA Mode. In there, remove and reinstall your video drivers.

I went into F8 and selected Enable VGA option. The computer booted up no problem but when I restarted the computer the screen went blank again. Would you say it is the VGA video drivers that need reinstallation ?What are your thoughts on this?

That's what I recommended, wasn't it?

i reinstalled the driver and was not able to boot up.I wnet into safe mode again "enabled VGA".The computer booted up but i got a message on the screen saying:

Your computer's screen resolution and colour depth are currently set to a very low level. You can get a better picture by increasing these settings.

I do this, however the screen blanks out. What should I try from this point on?

Well, you still haven't acknowledged whether you have uninstalled and reinstalled the video drivers. If you have not, you should do so. If you have, you should repair XP:

If that fails too, you should reinstall Windows from scratch.
