Cut Out

I am running windows xp.When I boot up, the boot process starts where the usual memory test shows on the screen first. The window xp logo as normal fills the screen and then the screen goes blank .I have tried repeatedly approx.20 times to reseat the video graphics card,stiil the screen goes blank during boot up. I tried using a miniprojector as the output screen but still the boot process is cut short.I am able to go into the bios which allows me to navigate all menus .Where else need I look for the solution?

Are you able to boot in safe mode?
Did this problem just spring up out of the blue or is this a new build?

The problem came out of the blue.It was working OK this morning and all of a sudden it would not complete the boot process.
