cant install Windows cause HD is "messed"

I got a Anthon XP 2400+
512 DDR RAM
with an 80 gig hard drive........

I recently just reformated the whole hard drive
and when i boot up with my Windows 98 disc and try to install it.. .it wont let me install because it says my D: drive (the second partition) is currupt or has errors on it...

It goes through the manual scan disk to fix the errors and stuff but it wont work..... and because of this it wont let me install windows 98 on my HD because of the errors on this disk...

Does this mean my HArd drive is Phyiscally DEAD? or is there some sort of technical problem with it?

any help would be greatlly appreciated! thanks guy!!!

I think its telling you that because of this reasons:
- You havent partitioned the hard drive with Windows 98's CD
- You have it formatted with NTFS
- Your hard drive is not correctly installed in your computer
- Your hard drive is damaged

Have you used 'FDISK' to see what partitions are on the drive?

You could also go to the HDD mfr's wesite and d/l their utility to see if there's anything wrong w/ it.

There's a list here of the major HDD mfr's.

You need to get a 9X/Me bootdisk from Bootdisk.com and use 'FDISK' to rid the HDD of the "Non-DOS Partitions".

You can then also use it to boot the PC w/ "CD-ROM Support" so you can install 9X.

Did you format your hard drive with Windows XP? If so I think you probably have it with NTFS and thats why its giving you errors. You will have to get a bootdisk as Rick said and go from there. Its really easy when you get everything. HTH's

Either the 98SE OEM or the Me OEM, either will work just fine.

Which one do you use? Windows 98 or Windows 98 Second edition? Even the Windows Me will work just fine. Here you go, this one should work for you. HTH's

Go to the drive manufacturers site and dl the diagnostic program..
More than likely it will have an option to "zero fill" the drive.(write all zeros to the drive.)THis has saved many a drive for me,seems to clean out bad partition info and such.
