Memory corrupt?

Hi,

I have an old AcerNote Light 350PCX. It has almost 8MB Base RAM memory. Today I installed a stick of 24MB RAM, and one of 8MB. The maximum for this laptop is 40, and the total is 40. With this I could not boot into working win95. I got error "windows protection error" and i formatted, and now it gives memory errors, when i try to install win95 with the memory in.

THe memmory passes the test at the beginning and does get recognized as the 40MB.

What's the problem?

Before reformatin I tried starting up in safe mode, but it gave an XMS error, do i need a newer version??
