You can do it using a file splitting utility or a back up program. Copy the folder win98 from the cd to the floppies and the files from the root directory of the cd. Then copy all the files from the floppies to a folder on the hard drive. Then run the install from the folder on the hard drive. I've done this with a windows 95 cd.

Haha, I've never heard of that, but even if it is possible, I don't know why you'd want to. It would require a heck of a lotta disks (they only hold 1.44 MBs, very tiny) and then installation would...actually, probably not work, because it tries to search for the install files all in one place, and you would need to know exactly where to find them in your disks...bah, there has to be a better way.

Just curious about the reason.

The Win 98 cabs file is ~119 mb so that would be a heck of a lot of floppies.

Cant you just put the HD in a machine, add the cabs that way then pop it back in the desired machine? Seem to be easier if that is your intention

I believe I suggested that in another thread. I also believe this is a laptop drive, so there'd either be an adapter or another laptop involved to copy the files.

I could also be confused w/ another member, but I'm pretty sure it's Flav_cool.

Win 98 was available on floppies. I had a set that was 13 disks.
Might be worth a post in the Buy/Sell Forum. Someone may still have a set...

I believe w/ a retail version of 95, you got a little post card that you could mail back to M$ w/ a fee and they would send you the floppies. I don't think they do that anymore.
