Well if you know your way around TechIMO you should have noticed this topic has been around many times. For you to get more answers to your question than on this topic use TechIMO's search engine, it works.

As for your question in my opinion I would go for a Radeon and a Pentium 4. I prefer Intel much more than AMD and it also depends on what models since there are many GeForce's around. Same thing with P4's and AMD's. I guess it depends on your opinion on the topic and which models you are comparing. To make it simple I generalized it and I went with the P4's and Radeons.

Ahem...

All generalized statements aside (this statement doesn't apply to you, Dan), it all REALLY depends on how much money you want to spend. Everyone has their own personal preference, but it all really comes down to how much you want to spend on a given system, and what you plan to do with that system. As far as high-end performance, Intel currently holds the crown for the most powerful processor/platform. But, if you're looking more towards the mid-range, things tend to get blurred a bit more (especially by fanaticism).

But, if I were going to build the killer-est of killer gaming platforms right now, I'd probably go with a 3.2GHz P4 on a good 875P-based motherboard, and add in a nice Radeon 9800XT. Keep in mind, though, that this would be a spare-no-expense system, and the price tag would of course reflect that. (Them 3.2GHz P4's ain't cheap, YANNOW?!)

But, if I were going to be building a budget box to handle a moderate amount of games for now and a few years to come, things get a bit more complicated. Price becomes an issue, and I'd probably end up going with an AMD AthlonXP 2500+ on a good nForce2 board, and my PERSONAL preference would have to be a Radeon 9600XT. But, maybe that's just me. It all pretty much comes down to how much you're really willing to spend, in any case.

A "no-win" discussion. Like cars, clothes (women?), food, etc., everyone has their favorites for a variety of reasons. Some just might call it loyalty. Myself, I've been with NVIDIA and Intel for years. Never tried anything else, because I was happy with what I had. I guess that unless you have a major problem with a product, most people will stick with it.

When I recently decided to build a new system to replace my 3 year-old Pentium III, I nearly went with AMD. Spent a lot of time browsing this forum and asking for suggestions. In the end, I went with Intel.

I've also never had a problem with NVIDIA, so never saw a reason to try anything else. Anyway, that's my story.

u want better cost/performance ratio? amd

u want the better videocard (high-end)? radeon 9800pro

as for the argument between ati and nvidia... give me a break. whichever company cretes the better videocard... is the better one in my book. i have no brand loyalty.
