Outdoors Major Problem! Maxx memory in win95???

Hi,

When I add 32MB of ram to my old laptop, windows does not load but instead says :windows protection error, restart your computer. When I try safe mode another error occurs with XMS...do I need a newer version? I have 3.95. Also, could it be an old DOS? I think i have dos3 or somethihng. WHere can i download the latest?

W95 will handle up to 512mb of ram without choking (beyond that there are problems, plus work-arounds).

Your reference to DOS version confuses me... are running a dual boot system? Is DOS 3 still installed on this laptop.

Another thing, it would really help if you post the exact make/model of your laptop. Is it (your hardware) capable of recognizing and using the amount of ram you want to install?

Is the new ram the kind that your laptop requires?

I had an old 486DX2/66 that would not accept more than 32mb of ram (that was all the motherboard could see).
