Dual processors... confusion!

I've been looking at this motherboard and became rather perplexed: http://www.monarchcomputer.com/Merch...gory_Code=ADMB

While it obviously clearly states that it supports two AMD Athlon MP processors, the confusion starts where it states "or one Athlon™ MP / Athlon™ XP / Athlon™ / Duron™ socket A processor."

Does this mean that if you use any other AMD chip besides an Athlon MP that you can only use one processor? Or can you mix and match whatever you want in both processor sockets as long as the chips are of the specs listed above?

MP stands for MultiProcessor. Other types are not configured for dual cpu, so you can only use one!

yes. But there is a trick to be able to use the xp processors as mp's.

I dont have time to find the link or thread right now. Do a search on google and youll find it or someone else will post it.

duallie motherboards generally also allow you to run the board in a single CPU configuration. for example let's say right now you a 2000+ processor for your webserver would be plenty but you expect alot of growth in th next 6 months... you can buy the webserver now and only buy one cpu instead of 2 and then in 6 months or whenever you need more power you can buy the other cpu ( prices should have dropped by now) and get more power out of your server without having to completely buy a new one
