new virus/worm???

First of all, this has me totally baffled. I'm dealing with our resident students that are getting new printers installed on their computers. It seems to have started within the last day or so. Each building has its own subnet. Computer A will have a local printer that is not shared. It will somehow get installed on Computer B without the user installing it. It just shows up. Example> \\ComputerA\printer It's happening in different buildings, but a user in Building A doesn't get a printer in Building B b/c they are on different subnets I suppose. Secondly, it's happening sporadically around the buildings. Operating Systems so far are only 2K/XP that I've found. Any clues? Thanks,

Jeff

I've noticed the same thing. Win XP seems to find and install shared printers that are on the local network automatically.
I believe it to be an O.S. "feature".

In WinXP go to Folder Options and the View tab.
Remove the checkmark for "Automatically search for network folders and printers".

Cheers!

I think there is a setting to turn that off, try looking in the printer folder, or perhaps the control panel.

That appears to have been the problem. For some reason, student computers decided to randomly install other student printers. Thanks for the help.
