"no vertical sync signal" says my monitor

I started to get the message two days ago. When I turned on my computer, the self-test message was displayed alright, after that the screen became corrupted and the above mentioned message showed.

First a few times the screen came back and showed my Windows XP desktop after a short moment. But now the monitor just can not display anything after the self-test screen (not even the bios setup screen), while windows runs properly behind the dark screen.

The problem can be solved by replacing my video card. So I thought it might be the cause, only to found out that it works perfectly fine on another machine

I am planning to reinstall the operation system, unless someone here would point me to a better way.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Send a message via Yahoo to muno
Perhaps disabling 'fast writes' from bios will help, I don't know
I only know there's option to enable/disable vsync for games.

Thanks, muno.

Fast write in bios has always been off.

The open GL setting has always been "on by default", but I don't think that setting would corrupt my screen.

Thanks again for your response, any more comments before I erase my system drive?
