NTLDR is Missing

Hey I just built this computer for like just school work etc. with the extra parts I have laying around but I get this error message when I try to boot. "NTLDR is missing press ctrl+alt+dlt to restart"
I do not have Windows installed on it cuz this comes up before it goes to boot from CD. Plz tell me how to fix this. The hdd I am using I just formatted so it's kinda old

System specs:
Athlon 2000xp
512mb
32mb GC (can't get it to work so I'm on a PCI card from 1995 :0(
19gb Maxtor HD
6GB IBM HD
52x Sony CD-r
350w PSU
AK38N mobo

Any suggestions would help TY

Hey I went to Webopedia.com and found this....http://webopedia.com/TERM/N/NTLDR.html

So I need to make a boot disk with sys.com on it?? How do I do that?? Never had this problem b4. The HD I'm using had Win98 on it.

The reason that message is coming up is because the computer is trying to boot from the hard disk and there is no OS to boot up. You may want to check your bios options and make sure that the cd is a boot device before the hard drive.

The "ntldr" gets corrupted etc. It is just a file on the hard drive...it is the "NT loader". Thats why you never had it before if you were running w98....its not in w98 or ME etc.

Supposedly you can just boot off of your cd and copy the ntldr from the cd to the root of the boot partition.

Well I went into the bios and changed to CD-r boot 2nd and it said boot from cd.. so I pressed a key and then this came up....
Press any key to boot from CD..CDBOOT: Couldn't find NTLDR

NTLDR is missing
Press Ctrl+Alt+Dlt to restart

what CD do you have? What Windows version? Is it the full OS or an "Upgrade" version? Do you have a Windows OS on another computer that you could use to make a start up disk?

I got another WinXP CD that I had and it worked. Must have been a bad version of windows. TY for help
