Audio causes lockup

Ok I was trying to play some MP3's and Winamp would cause the computer to lockup,so I tried WMP, same thing.I uninstalled winamp and reinstalled it and it is better, but still the program freezes, not the whole machine.
I pulled the cover, and the HS is full of dust,so I took it off and cleaned it out.The machine responds faster, but still won't play MP3's or Audio CD's.Won't work with any program, just total POS.
I didn't have any problems last time I tried, but who knows what happens top these things

It is an Amptron 8400c
with an AMD 400 K6/2
Asound Express PCI Sound
Modem (ISA)
Teac 24x and Mitsumi 4x Burner
Running windows Millenium.
2 Maxtor HDDS

Like I said never had a problem before, but it just refuses to Cooperate.

TIA

Did you try removing the original card from your hardware device profile and rebooting to let Windows detect it again, then reload the drivers? Just making sure you don't throw away a good card...

Try changing the card to different slots also.

Good thought eagle...sometimes your system can have problems if you have a PCI card installed in slot 1 just underneath your AGP slot. IRQ conflicts and such...
