Kids Your Backup Routine

I'm wondering what you guys do in terms of backup of information, if anything. I have a client who wants me to setup a system where all of his crucial data is backed up a few times a week, but I'm wondering what the best way to approach this would be.

What are your backup routines like?

Any backup tips/tricks would be helpful.

Thanks.

- Brandon

I press the clutch, put the shifter in Reverse, release the clutch, give it a little gas, and go.

Why? Is there a different way to backup?

Definitely make a batch file for th ebackup..then have task scheduler run it. An external hard drive is sweet for this. Or, if he has more than one machine you can make the batch file to backup to a folder on the other drive. Meese had a slick batch file that did that. He and Davidamarkley are the batch file pros.

Batch files are good cuz they are quick and they dont require human diligence. the "xcopy" command is the one to use, it has lots of nice little features,

I put backup files on the network drive. I used to do CD backups but those are such a pain in the ass.

I keep hearing about retrospect. A place I did some work for..a company had given them some frre version (bootleg?) of restrospect. They were trying to use it with an ext drive. It kept crashing all the time...but I keep hearing how good it is. I wonder if they just needed a fresh install of W98...cuz it was one of those "never been reloaded, probably never been updated" 5 year old builds etc.
