Win Word 2000 sp3 install help.

Im trying to install SP3 for word 2k but thier is no original install disk because it came on the computer preinstalled. Now its asking for the install.msi file but thier isnt one. Stupid dell computers.

How do I get around this?

You should still have gotten the Office disks even if it came preinstalled. Have you tiried searching through the box again? The disk should have come with all your paperwork.

Have you tried to install the latest service pack? Currently there are four service packs for Windows 2000 Professional.

He's trying to install the Office service packs - not for Windows. You have to have the original media to install SP's for Office now. He should have gotten the media with the computer though so it shouldn't be an issue.

Look around for some .zip files. I had to find NAV2K2 for some folks on their Dell. They uninstalled it "accidently". There should be a directory in C:\ that has a whole bunch of .zip files. You'll have to open each one to see the contents, but you'll eventually find the OFF2K files. Just extract them to a folder and point the SP install to that directory.

XP's search utility will search inside archive files. Just search the hard drive for *.msi and see if you find the one you're looking for. You'll have to extract the file in question to use it but it's better than extracting every file in the directory.

EDIT: This is assuming you have XP.
