Good P4 / Motherboard Combo

Hey, I haven't oc'ed since my P2 266 celeron. I am guessing things have changed since then. At the time, I upped the FSB from 66 to 100 Mhz. Is this the only way to up the P4's also, by the FSB speed? Or, can the multiplier be changed too?

Anyway, what is a good combination of P4 and motherboard for oc'ing? Is it better to go with a 533Mhz FSB and boost it to 800Mhz?

Pentium multipliers remain locked. I don't think a 533 (4x133) core can be pushed to 800 (4x200).

I'm accumulating the parts for a P4 2.4C (800 MHz) and Abit IS7-E setup. It's the same core as the 3.2C and results at www.overclockers.com indicate and average OC of 3.3GHz. I'm targeting 3.6GHz. Mobo tests at www.anandtech.com recommend the IS7 family for overclocking.

Hey so, what is your FSB going to be then? You're going above 800Mhz?

I have an Abit IS7-E and a 2.4C and oc'ing this thing is easy. I just set the fsb to 250 5:4 mem divider and lock the pci/agp bus. Instant 3 ghz. I can push this thing much higher, but I have crappy pc3200 right now and will go higher with the 3:2 divider when I get some decent ram. Get the 2.4C and any of the IS7 series. You won't be disappointed. Good Luck !!!!

My target 3.6GHz would mean a 50% speed jump ... 4x300=1200.

I'll be using PC4000 DDR capable of a base FSB of 250. At 300 it will require a 5:4 CPU:RAM setting ... 240.
