Is anyone using a voice/data splitter?

Do they work?
Anyone used one?
I've seen one on TV which reminded me of another one I'd seen a few years ago.

I have dial up and it's not worth the price of a new phone line.
I have a call waiting modem, but I have to fix my computer before I put it in and take it for a drive.
If a data splitter would work, that would cover all the computers wouldn't it?

I am looking for a cheap solution

be back later I have to go clean the garage and haul some firewood before it's too late

for ADSL in the UK we have to use what's called a microfilter on all the phone points in the house - it separates out the low-freq voice (phone calls) from the higher freq DSL signals and helps eliminate noise between the two, even though the same circuit is used. It also allows you to use your phone and DSL at the same time

They are the same size as a regular phone line splitter and cost £5-£15. They work well (in fact ADSL wouldn't work without it )

Not too many! I tweaked my back digging a 40' channel down the driveway yesterday am to help drain the rain off the yard and into a water drain Fingers put in for a different part of the yard
All of is was rocks and clay (well for the most part )

Thanks U-96, I am familiar with those. I think I was a little tired when I posted this and I was too brief. (I had been ditch diggin'' and grocery shopping' )

I've had DSL before, and used them.
Now I just have a regular slow dial up connection. I'm too far from town to have anything else, we don't even have cable, and I'm not forking out 600.00 for equipment and 60.00 a month for a Satellite connection.

I saw an ad for a data splitter. What it is supposed to do with the help of call waiting, is send a call to your phone when you are online, giving you the time to answer and use the phone for a short time and stay online. Mainly I just want the phone to ring when I'm on line. I don't even really care if I'm bumped.
But here Television ads for something you send for, is usually a rip off or double the price for the same thing if you found it in a store.

I remember the ones we had from a place I worked, but those just split digital and analog symbol, sending calls to the phone or fax. I imagine the one I saw advertised on TV does the same, sends the analog to the phone.

I should probably move this to Networking/ Internet...
