hey - see if any ideas in this thread work for you

http://www.techimo.com/forum/t83990.html

if you decide you need to edit the XF86Config then you'll need to do that as root

either way, I'm pretty sure you'll need to restart X (i.e. log out, possibly hit ctrl+alt+bkspc)

Drakconf should do it. I think you'll need to restart X before it will take effect though. Just press Ctrl+Alt+Backspace after saving the settings.
Otherwise, post the details of the mouse (PS2 or USB, how many buttons and wheels) and the mouse section of /etc/X11/XF86Config and we'll see what we can do.

The XF86Config file most likely has the mouse type set to PS/2. Add an 'IM' before the PS/2 and you should be all set. Like stated above, you'll need to edit the file as root and restart X for the changes to take effect.
