several problems, where to start?
I hope someone can shed some light on my predicament as it is doing my head in!
1st off my monitor blanks out regularly, and randomly, mostly when browsing the web.
I dl'ed a free game about 6 times from different places and everytime i tried to install i had crc errors, yet when my friend sent me the game on disc, it installed 1st time.
same thing happened when i tried to dl a beta game ive been invited to test,(crc errors) so i went to my partners pc which runs off the same router/internet connection, it came through clean, and installed no probs.
I tried to play the game (americas army)and works for maybe 5 minutes then the graphics start fouling up and sometimes the sound too.
but medal of honor works fine (offline)
often when i try to shut down my pc it wont switch itself off, it hangs at the saving your settings page, i have to hit the reset button.
I'm at a loss as of what to do i have un/reinstalled video and sound drivers. i've checked all the newbie things i can but the problems persist.
Might my system be running at too hig a temp? what is an acceptable temperature for a cpu?
windows xp home sp1
amd athlon xp 1600
1.41GHz
512mb ram
jetway v266b mobo
sb audigy soundcard
gf mx 440 with 8x agp (mobo only has 4x agp, but the guy that sold me assured me it would work at 4x no problems!)
maxtor 30gb hd

Welcome to TechIMO
The crc errors, are they happening when you "unzip" the downloads? If so, what program are you using to unzip?

A lot of CRC errors are caused by faulty connections to the internet. Make sure your connection is hard.
What type of internet do you use?
Your monitor could be bad itself, from what you have said..
And Welcome to TechIMO!!

hi guys thanks for the welcome,
yes, they happen whilst the program "unzips", i use winzip (evaluation copy)
I have a cable internet connection through a netgear rp144 router, but i think i have ruled out the internet connection as i dl'ed the file on another pc that uses the same connectionI have a samsung syncmaster 152v.
I just got the file i dl'ed off my other pc burnt to disc and have installed it , but there are graphic and sound glitches as i play the tutorial!
so i guess the fact that there are sound and graphic problems rules out the monitor as being at fault....maybe
civ3 works fine, the graphics sometimes freeze on sim city 4 but it noramally recovers. but americas army has sound and graphic glitches which make the game unplayable after about 5 minutes.
same with lords of everquest.
would the load when unzipping or playing cpu intensive games
cause my cpu to overheat?
having read the other thread about cpu temps im thinking mine runs quite hot (65'C).

You might try running a ping test on each port and see if one is better then the rest. Just a thought. :=)

Have you tried by any chance another network card?
It's probably a damaged card.
About your graphic card problem, try downloading old drivers and download some tweaking utilities to see with what you can come up with. You can download these things from guru3d.com

I have seen slightly similar things, with tthe video issue, I found a bad card.
I downloaded a shareware program form download.com
called freash diagnose, works well, every time you come to the video adaptor benchmark it will lock up if you have a bad card. I believe it will also test your NIC.
