Linksys Wireless Adapter Problems.

I am a gamer, and naturally my "profession" if you will, usually depends on Multiplayer gaming(or MP). I don't fool with this internet junk, and I really don't want to. But this has gotten out of hand, and it is really really cutting into my gaming.

Problem: I use a Linksys Wireless Adapter, when I play a game, everything will be fine, I get about a 120-170 ping, which is decent enough for lag-free gaming. But I have this mysterious "lag spikes" if your familar with the term, and my ping shoots up to 999(which means the ping/bandwidth is no longer able to respond to the server), and it freezes, like most MP games do. Then it will go away, and I'll get about 120-170 again. But then only to shoot up a few minutes later. It gets worse with alot more people on the server.

My server administator(my dad) doesn't know what it is, as I have told him about the problem. He says its the server. But I know it isn't true, because I've been to T3 servers and still had the problem. So, I needed and answer, so I found this forum.

If you need additional Info please say so, but once you reach your conclusion, please give in extreme detail, since I am not adept in this internet business.

Thanks,
PotatoMaster.

[EDIT] I use Windows XP Professional, my adapter has the following written on it:
2.4GHz
802.11b
Wireless USB Network Adapter

I believe it is version 3.6 also. I used to run ME with the same network, and same wireless adapter for that matter, and never once(with all my spyware) did I run into this problem. So I am convinced it is some setting from XPP.

Could be the card polling for the network every so often. I don't game with mine, but I've never noticed any sort of problem say, streaming MP3s from my computer downstairs through my laptop with a linksys wireless unless I hit something really heavy on the net.

any 2.4 GHZ phones around? this could be a reason have a friend that losses network connection everytime the phone ringed. changed the phone and problem solved..

This is basically they share the same band. Change the channel in the router maybe that helps you out a bit also.

Almost forgot Welcome to Techimo!!!!

No, I don't have a phone nearby, unless you count the cordless. Which I ran ME and it was in the same spot, and I was running the same network, with the same adapter.

Its just about any game I play online.
To name a few, which this does happen to every game I play online:
Priston Tale
Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast
Jedi Knight 3: Jedi Academy
Age of Mythology
Neverwinter Nights

Those are the only ones I have played recently, and most are of different genre. And all of them have different graphic engines*.

* Just for reference one may THINK JK3:JA is still the Q3 engine, but it isn't. In order to achieve what they wanted, they had to completely re-make their own engine. JK2:JO on the other hand, is a heavily modified version of the Q3(Quake 3) engine.
