I need some help with my assignment about networking

Respond to the following case study with a one-screen(one-page)essay:
Imagine that you are the network administrator for a start-up company that has a limited amount of capital, but needs a network for its 100 developers. You have decided that Ethernet is the way to go, but after specifying the requirements, you discover that you are at least 25% over budget. You read about a mail-order house that offers lesser-known products at greatly reduced prices. When you call to determine if they adhere to standards, they hedge a little, but tell you they do. You order the merchandise and it is delivered in plain brown paper boxes. Only the name of the item is on the box: NIC or transceiver. What do you do?



I don't expect anyone to do this for me. I just need a start. I've been doing great in this class upto this unit about protocols. I'm not fully understanding it. The biggest problem is that some of this stuff has outdated questions. Very hard to find answers to questions that don't exist anymore. Anything will help. Thanks.

What do I do? Well, heck I just paid a bundle for all the equipment im assuming so I would start ripping open some darn boxes and peeking my head inside. I test a few of the products on an "already completed" small network. Like my home network, maybe between just 2 computers at the site. If a few of the products work fine, everything seems to be there, I don't see why I shouldn't build the whole network then.

What do you mean they hedged a little when u asked them if they adhere to standards? What standards? Like FCC standards? If they are talking about ethernet protocols or something, they either work or don't.
