Gaming cpu running low speed!!!

hello all,

i gave up on trying to fix my other mobo and case so i put all the hardware back into my old case and mobo. now, the only thing that's going wrong is my cpu an amd 1800+ is running @ 1150mhz! it should be 1513mhz! i went into the bios to set the system bus to 132mhz (i thought that it was 133 but oh well) and i did just that but when i saved and exited when it re-booted it was still at 1150mhz! i thought maybe my cmos wasn't saving but it saved all the other things that i did, so i reset the cmos and went at it again with the same result. any ideas?

thanx,

<shad>

depending on the board model you may have to change a jumper or update the bios

It's running at 11.5X100MHz=1150MHz. You probably have a jumper (as stated) on the mobo that is set incorrectly. It should be 11.5X133MHz=1530MHz.

The multiplier can't be changed, so that doesn't really matter. I doubt if the CPU is "unlocked".

I ran into the same problem with a gigabyte board. There is a jumper (the manual should refer to it as the FSB jumper) that can be set at 100, which is usually the default setting, or 133. When an 1800+ athlon is running on a 100 FSB it will clock at 1150. The bios can still allow you to set it to 133 but it will not run at 133 unless the jumper is set for it.
Its really an easy fix. Just power down the computer, turn off the power to the board, and set the jumper to the other position.

i think the mobo is a jetway? it's not a great mobo but it does the job. anyways, i don't see a jumper on the mobo, all i did was take out the processor and put it in the new mobo that i bought and that didn't work so i took it out and just placed it in the jetway mobo. i dont' think that i've ever seen a jumper on the mobo for the system bus. i think it's all done in the bios. i can live without the processor running at 1513ghz, i have a new problem now!! yeah! that same system isn't booting now, i have win2k on it and it starts to load (at the screen with the first horizontal bar that runs across) and then it just stops about 1/4 of the way through. this is a real annoyance. now i can't use my computer, i have to use my friends. any help again, will be greatly appreciated!

this can't be good, i tried to see if the other mobo that i bought (the new one, i know this has to be confusing) was salvagable, so i plugged in my cpu and everything that needs to go along w/ it and when i turned it on, it didn't reset like it used to, it just had a REALLY REALLY REALLY strong smell coming from it. not a burning smell but a metalic smell like a compasitor or something like that. truthfully, that scared the crap out of me so i shut it off fast! the smell was getting stronger as the computer was left on longer. i'm screwed, i'm not able to get ANY of my systems working! aaaaahhhh!!!!
