9200 vs 9100: FIGHT!!!!!

So which is the better card? I hear conflicting stories on the 9200. One story is that its a 9100 that has 8xAGP and the other is that its just a 9000w/8xAGP. I'm currently considering this Gigabyte model

http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...ion=14-125-113

it looks like a nice card, and I'm guessing I can OC it thanks to that HSF. I'll be using it to replace a Radeon 7200 which has been having issues with UT2K3 (missing polygons and what not).

BTW, I looked at the 9600s but a little over my price range for the system I'm putting it in. Oh, and links to reviews on this card would be especially helpfull

The radeon 9200 is the better one. It has pixel shaders!

What do you mean? Both are DX8.1(no DX9 on either one) compliant cards and therfore both have DX8.1 shaders.

not neccesarrily. the geforcemx's are dx8 and dont have shaders. Now that you mention it, I cant exactly rememebr for sure if the 9100 has them or not. Regardless, the 9200 is still the better card.

FF11 at a reasonable speed with a 9200? Pfft

Good luck.

That game doesn't have the best engine to begin with. Sluggish on my 9800 Pro.

ANYWAY, 8500 = 9100 I found out on the internet on numerous sites.

"...the Radeon 9200 is locked, which means you cannot overclock it unless you flash the bios to one that has the clockspeed unlocked. "

"As the Radeon 9200 performs worse than the 9000 Pro and 9100 families, those two cards are a better buy on a per dollar basis."

"Actually the 9200 doesn't have DX9 support so apart from cost, there's no advantage of getting the 9200 over the 8500 (or even the 9100, which I think is the 8500 or 8500LE rebadged)."

"as you can see, theoretical speeds are slower on a 9200 than an 8500; performance results agree too."

http://www.digit-life.com/articles2/...iga-r9200.html

"However, the situation is not as simple as it should be for customers because the RADEON 9200 is slower than the RADEON 9100 (former RADEON 8500LE), and the higher index of the 9200 may confuse them. "
