2.4 or 2.6, 2.8?

Hey,

I'm thinking of buying a new computer. The thing is what processor should I buy? The 2.6 costs as much as the 2.6 (All of them are C (800MHz FSB)) I hear you can easily overclock the 2.4 to 3.0 with stock cooling. The other ones I don't know. Any suggestions?

How bout AMD? Better bang for the buck, so I hear.

No, go for those Intel. AMD are for people that are in a budget and cant spend alot of money. They are excellent but those you are interested in (Pentium 4, 800FSB) are the best so far for home users. If you are having doubts about which one you will have to think what you are going to use it for. I would go for the 2.4 processor if you are the average user that play games, search the internet, the usual. If you deal with video editing or image development (such as Photoshop) you can consider a better and stronger one such as the 2.6 and 2.8. If you really need the power, which most people don't, you will probably want the 3.0 and 3.2. HTH's

If you can get hold of a 2.4C (800mhz FSB), by all means go for it. Unfortunately about a week before I purchased my computer they stopped making them . I was able to get a 3.0 very cheap, but I would still much prefer the 2.4C, as it is easily capable of running at 250FSB (=3.0ghz) and outperforming the stock 3.0 chip.

Hmmm, now theres another problem... What if overclocking is bad? I mean...ughhhh I don't feel like risking the life of it...and then u gotta go into cooling and everything...or can 2.4 reach 3.0 on stock cooling?

P.S. whoever said to get the 2.6, there is an advantage to 2.4 if they all overclock to the same thing because the fsb will be higher , but the RAM might not take it.

You shouldnt worry about overclocking these processors at all since they already are powerful enough. Let me ask you a question, what are you going to use this computer for? I seriously doubt you nede to be overclocking a such powerful processor. Compared to mine, an Athlon XP 2000+ which would be accepted to overclock since its not as powerful as the ones you are interested in. Dont worry about overclocking, you will have headaches to keep it cool and stuff. Just my opinion

what i said there was that all the other C's can achieve a high OC just like the 2.4C. and no, the 2.4C is not discontinued.
