Audigy 2 OEM.....driver issues..plz help..thx

I just recieved the audigy 2 oem and the z680s. i got no cd with it so i decided to download teh eax 4.0 driver for audigy 2. Now i am not getting 5.1 sound. I need the surround mixer or playcenter do this or whtever that program is called. When i try to install it, it says "Setup did not detect the required components, setup will now exit" after it looks for creative hardware.. Wht's wrong, i have installed it correctly for sure, and i'm getting sound. plz help....btw after i get it working, will i be able to listen to mp3s in 5.1 (not real 5.1, just simulated so that all speakers are giving sound)?

did u download the creative drivers and not just the eax4.0 drivers?

maybe u didnt install the actual drivers and so the pc cant detect the audigy2.... need more info...

well, i installed teh eax 4.0 patch first and then tried installing the driver, but it didn't recognize the card. i looked up this problem, and it seems that many ppl r having it. i found a way to bypass the detection thing by downloading the whole audigy2 suite (119mb) and then go into the data folder and install the different programs individually and the driver also. i got it working, but i am still worried that i got a defective card since the center channel during games and everything is so damn faint, even if i turn it up all the way, but when i do the channel test, i hear it clearly. i also want to know how to enable eax advanced hd, if is disabled right after you install it. should i just ship my card back to the site i bought it from and then recieve anoter one just to make sure that this one is not defective because i tried it in different machines, and nothing would allow it to install except for teh eax 4.0 drivers. not even the audigy2 drivers or the setups would continue, even though i could hear sound after installing the eax 4.0 updates. i know this sound confusing but there are many ppl with this problem, and i contacted creative about it but they aren't much of a help.....can you guyz please look this up and try to get to the bottom of this once and for all...ther r like 50 ppl if you look it up on google with the exact same problem....or maybe all of them got defective cards......it just does not detect it when the setup runs but it does detect in device manager and startup. if the setups don't run (except for the eax 4.0 update) the programs and drivers are unable to install......however, i found a neat trick by downloading teh entire suite at 119mb and then opening the folder with all of teh programs in it that are attached to the main setup, and they do not detect since the main setup does that at the beginning. but still, i am worried....and sry for being so paranoid....i just need sum help...LOL

in that case, i wont be installing eax4.0 until creative fixes this mess. i am very happy with eax3.0 at the moment.. i feel that it is a significant leap from eax1.0 and even 2.0.

do you really need eax4.0 right now? i mean, are there games out there that utilize eax 4.0?

call of duty only utilizes up to 3.0 and all other games i played have no options for 4.0.... maybe u should stick to 3.0 until this problem is solved.

the thing is i cannot install anything other than that patch, it gives that damn error again, but i found away to bypass that with the full suite, now i can install the little programs individually. now the center speaker rarely works. like in counter strike, it doesn't work, only stereo!!! it only works perfectly in battlefield and quake. how can i get 5.1 in every game, or music?

also, i thought the dollby prologic II on the z680s was capable of turning a stereo signal into 5.1, but it only gives sound to center and front sats, nothing to the rear>>???? i dunno why, same with movie pl 2 and music pl 2.

Check the Creative forum, Creative does not offer support for OEM cards. Your reseller should have supplied you with the CD.

EAX 4.0 is a full driver update, not only EAX update so it should be installed after regular drivers and applications.

Most games support up to 4 channels.

My advice, take the card back and order a retail version of Audigy 2 ZS. It can be found on the web for as low as 81 US$. You get all drivers and apps, newer and better card with 7.1 support, Tomb Raider Angel Of Darkness, Raven Shield and one advanced resolution DVD audio disc. I have bought one and installed it without a single glitch on Windows XP together with EAX 4.0 update.

i have read many problems with oem soundcards.... i now believe:

do not buy oem soundcards... at any cost.
