Systems Hp recovery

I have a HP Pavilion 8756C that I need to recover. The ME software has been loaded on the hard drive but I can't find the recover disks. Can the recover or setup be done from the hard drive using setup or do I in fact have to get new recover disks? When I try to use setup it starts but I get an error message that Explorer is not loaded but I can see it under the Windows directory. I also get a SUWIN error mesage at times. I am not having great of luck with HP. I am going to upgrade to XP but I have to have the ME working before I can use the upgrade. I only need the recover disks to get it back up and than will upgrade. Any suggestions? Thanks

re: HP RECOVERY

There's a lot of different numbered Suwin error's if you could remember that exact Suwin error code that would help.

Before you reformat the hard drive you will need either new recovery disks or a new operating system.

Is your computer still under warranty?

If it is call up Hewlett Packard and tell them that you want replacement recovery disks sent out to you.

Here is the SUWIN message: SUWIN An error has occured in your application. If you choose to ignore you should save your work in a new folder. If you close your application will terminate.

Two buttons appear "Close" and "ignore" Only Close button will work. When I hit it, I get Message: Application error. SUWIN caused a general protection fault in module VERX.dll at 0002:24AE
I have tried to get new recovery disks from HP but they can't seem to find part number.

You may want to consider restoring the default values by entering the BIOS Setup Utility.

Restart your computer.

At the HP blue logo screen press the F1 key.

You should be in the BIOS Setup Utility.

Press the F5 key to restore the default hardware settings.

Press F10 to save and exit the BIOS.

The computer will restart.

Go to the Windows Registry and follow the path given below
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion

ProductKey
ProductId

Find the String Values above and write both numbers down you will need one or both to upgrade.

You can also find the ProductId by right clicking the My computer icon
and clicking on properties you probably already know this but just in case you didn't I provided this information.

Thanks for the suggestions. Resetting to default doesn't help. Your second suggestion, I can't get to the My computer icon as the OS wont come up. I can get the startup disk to start the computer in the basic dos modes but cant get to the safe mode. The new upgrade software for XP requires a working system as the system wont upgrade under the DOPS mode. It requires Windows to upgrade.
