Getting closer figuring out the problem...
I am still working on my brother-in-law's network. At first I thought just AIM wouldn't work. Now I have figured out that the client will not connect to any secure site. It tries then stops. Here's the weirdest part: when I would try and connect, the client would try to load the site verrry slowly, then show this page cannot be displayed. After that, the client wouldn't connect at all anymore. The gateway would stop connecting also and I would have to reboot it also.
I disabled the XP firewall on the gateway and now the client will still not connect to the secure website, but now I do not need to reboot the gateway.
All the browser's setting are pointing to the gateway (http, secure, etc). Here's the information concerning the network...
Gateway:
running XP (firewall disabled)
ICS enabled
IP: Direcway
Running Sygate personal firewall (it would connect prior to installing Sygate) I have the services enable to allow ICS according to sygate's help files
Avast AV
Netgear 24-port ethernet switch
Client:
running ME
Sygate FW
Avast AV
Again, it connects to all sites except secure site and they cannot use AIM, see sucure site or use e-mail.
I am not sure if this is relevant, but the way the service works is the modem runs off of software from the computer, which is why I had to set up a gateway. It comes into the modem then into the gateway via a USB cable.
