SLOT Number

Hey its me again!
Got my new Intel cards and they have the enabler, and DOS drivers I was looking for, that LINKSYS did not have:
Now I am up against another problem: Why can at least one thing go smooth!
I need to know how to find the correct slot number? There is a modem on Com 3, would that have a slot number?
I know my point enabler, kept choicing the modems IRQ as a default.
It loads all the drivers, runs smooth, that it can not connect using TCP/IP
I think that ghost is looking at the modem, and not at the PCMCIA card.
Any help would be awesome!

sounds like your having problems with the install of the pcmcia card check the device manager to make sure its installed properly. Check all your netowrking setting as well. As I've never used ghost before I'm not 100% sure on what they should be, but I'd start with the basics.

one other note I see your usiong a switch to connect to the other computer can you actually see the other computer in the network or is it just an issue with ghost not seeing the pcmcia network card ??

you might have been better of posting this in the original thread so everyone knows what the total deal is.

All right: here is the link to the orignal thread
http://www.techimo.com/forum/showthr...threadid=87935

The mapping aspect will not matter here. The mapping happens during Ghost. You set one computer as master and one as slave, tell the master what the ip address of the slave is and bingo!

Windows does not really matter here either. Ghost is all done before you ever get to Windows. It basically all about the boot disk. I've been working on mine for a while (9 days now)
After a lot of hurtles, I think (and hope) that this is the last one.
Something keeps happening, when ghost trys and use TCP/IP. It is not grayed out, which is usaully the first sign of trouble. It lets you try.
I have even assigned IP addresses, because it would not read the DHCP.
As I stated before I think that Ghost is looking at the modem, and not at the Intel NIC.
There is an option of telling the protocol.ini what slot to use. So I am trying to find what slot number the Intel card is in. Does anyone know how to find it??

There is only what, two PCMCIA slots right? Try each one in the protocol.ini file and see what happens. There are only a few possible options, so it shouldn't take too long to figure it out simply by trial and error.

Target, I am not sure what the number could be. The default is 0x0044. I have tried the decimel format of 1 through 10. and nothing works it just deafults back to 0x0044.

Here are the details step by step of what is happening:
1) It boots, Loads Point enable (CBCOMBO.exe)
**Note- the strange thing about this is that by default it chooses IRQ 5, In wondows the IRQ for the modem is 5, but it also reads that in DOS, the modem has IRQ=4, The IRQ in win for the NIC is 10 (I have played with this and set it so it goes to ten and that does nothelp)

2) Loads protocol.ini, drivers and such
3) By default it chooses the NIC that is in slot 0x0044
4) chooses node address from protocol (which I am not sure if that correct, but it was not working before I changed it)
5) loads LAN manager, Netbind, Mouse
6) No errors throough any of this except the Slot Number
7) Loads Ghost
8) TCP/IP is available. I choose master on master, slave on slave
9) Type in Slave's IP address, and get: "TCP/IP connection could not be established"
** Note I have tried the same path on two other PC's and everything worked great so that elimanates the Switch, Router, etc..

Any ideas??

PS: I am going to Copy/Paste the Autoexec, Config.sys, and the Protocol.ini after this (just in case)

Config.sys
DEVICE=\NET\CBCOMBO.EXE NocOMM
DEVICE=\net\protman.dos /I:\net
DEVICE=\net\dis_pkt.dos
DEVICE=\net\E100b.dos

Autoexec.bat
@echo off
prompt $p$g
\net\netbind.com
MOUSE.COM
cd \ghost
echo Loading...
GHOSTPE.EXE -fni

Protocol.ini

[protman]
drivername=PROTMAN$

[pktdrv]
drivername=PKTDRV$
bindings=nic
intvec=0x60
chainvec=0x66

[nic]
drivername = E100B$
; slot = 8 (Was trying different numbers)
; USELASTSLOT = 2 (Intel said this would make it chose the last slot)
; node = "000347184fb2" (not sure if this worked)
; Line Speed (Mbits/sec) (Wanted to make sure it was configured for a 100Mb switch)

Speed = 100

; Force Duplex Mode

ForceDuplex = 2

Could you possibly remove the modem or disable it in bios..to take it out of the picture?

This sounds possibly related...specifically the last line

The main problem encountered while using DOS programs (such as the Ghost executable file) with PCMCIA devices is not the device itself, but access to the PCMCIA slot. To make PCMCIA slots function in DOS, DOS requires DOS drivers called Socket Services, which are provided by the maker of the laptop computer or a third party vendor. It is possible for Ghost to work with your PCMCIA device if you can find the proper Socket Services drivers for your laptop.

Nope, Its a laptop, and I am going for mass production so that can't work,
Tha BIOS on this thing (Compaq Armada 100s) is basically worthless, I was looking everywhere to see if it had Plug -n- play turned on, but could not find anything for that.
So Nope, and Nope
