9700pro beat by GF2

I'm building a system on the side; a P2 200mhz and I put a GF2mx in it. I figured it would be fun to see how this stood up to my P4 Radeon 9700pro. I have to say I'm impressed with the GF2; the 9700pro only scored 16 times better in 3DMark 2001se! The GF2 at 744 and the 9600pro at 11849. Then I decided to switch the two. So the 9700pro went in to a P2 200mhz and the GF2 into my P4 2.4ghz. This time the GF2 wins! The 9700pro at 2387 and the GF2 at 4923! Based on these definitive results the GF2 is a better card than the 9700pro [sort of (LOL)].


YOU SHOULD NEVER PUT A VIDEO CARD IN A COMPUTER THAT HAS LESS CORE CLOCK SPEED!!!!

I'm not aware that there ever was a Pentium II 200, unless Intel produced it specially for OEM's. That's either a Pentium 200 or a Pentium 2 233.

That said, I'm VERY surprised to hear a GF2 MX was capable of a 4923 in 3DMark 2001. Maybe I am mis-remembering, but that seems very fast (for that card) to me.

i dont understand your concept. so ur saying that since the gf2 scored 700 and the 9700pro scored 2300 in the same pc - the gf2 is faster than the 9700?

It may be a 233, the bios and system in the control panel say different things.
I was surprised that it did so well on my pentium 4, too.

That's......no way, that can't be. What size is your power supply, first off? The 9700 Pro is a power hog, and if you forget to plug the extra molex connector in or your supply is underpowered, that may explain the strange scores.

of course its possible. the fact is that the slow cpu is the bottleneck for the 9700 - it cant be run even remotely close to its potential because of the slow cpu, inferior ram, and lackluster mobo.

the 9700 proves that it is faster when compared on the same pc... come on guys - look at the facts.

im guessing that the cpu was such a bottleneck to the gpu that it didnt matter how good the card was, it would look good...
