Computer is on a distinguished road
office XP problems

If I go into word or excel and try to open a folder i a message that says "File ___ not available. then when i try to exit it says
" The file Normal already exitsts, do you want to replace it?" If I hit yes it exits. If I hit no then it takes me to save as and it has a file called normal. It's file type is "Document Template" and it is save in a folder called template

Can someone help because I can't open any office files until I get this fixed.

Search for the file->normal.dot and delete it. It'll get recreated next time you gointo Word.

Did you compete this step and save the file?

A remote long shot worth checking into:

Cause 2: Word Is Infected with a Macro Virus
This problem can occur if your computer is infected with a virus that changes the global template (Normal.dot). To help avoid virus infection, keep your antivirus software and virus definitions updated with the latest versions. Please ask your antivirus software vendor for the latest information.

I have exactly the same problem. And worse, when I suppress Ofiice XP and go back to office 2000, outlook now fails with an error msg saying that msmapi32.dll is not found....
