WMI error...Help

everytime I try to start certain programs like Halo or 3dmark an error comes up saying "WMI has encountered an error and needs to close". WTF is up with this. Its never happened with me before and its seriously limiting what I can do. I've already gone into the service folder under administrative tools and turned the option for Windows management Instrumentation to manual but its not doing anything. Any help around this would be appreciated.

that service should be STARTED.

What version of IE are you running?
Win2k or XP?
What Service pack?

Is the service started?

May want to try to reinstall IE6... its either that or try reinstalling WSH (windows scripting host)
