AGP acceleration

Hey there,
I must be n00b no. (something with a lot of 0's at he end) to ask this, but I can't seem to enable AGP acceleration anywhere. I read something about Fast-writes somewhere, but I can't find this anywhere either (this might also be caused by the fact that I have a Dutch version of XP (being Dutch, and all) and that I don't know how they translated Fast-writes ). I have the following stuff in my pc: a nVIDIA geforce fx 5200 ultra gamer 256 MB DDR, P4 SSE2 3 Ghz, 512 DDR ram and a Gigabyte GA-8SGXLFS mobo.

Thanks for your time, Matthijs

To my knowledge there is nothing refered to as simply "AGP acceleration." Fast writes is a BIOS option which, while a good idea, generally makes your system less stable for very little performance gain.

Hi Aurian,
Generally the problem you describe is due to not having the motherboard's AGP driver installed. What is telling you that you don't have AGP acceleration? (Some programs get it wrong). If you haven't already, try running 'dxdiag' and look under 'display'.
Don't worry about AGP fastwrites, that feature, although it can give you minimal improvements, often causes instability.
Cheers,
Elad.

when I first started max payne 2, the program said that agp acceleration was not enabled. 3d mark 2003 said that it was supported by my mobo, but that it wasn't enabled. And now dxdiag says it isn't available at all. HELP!

Don't panic ... breathe ... sit down ... relax ... take a massage ... try one of our delectable ladies ... ooh errr ...

Can't find that motherboard at the gigabyte site but from its name I am guessing it has a SiS chipset. You need to install the AGP drivers for the motherboard. That should fix your problem. It should be on the drivers disk. If not, download them from gigabyte. If that doesn't work, get back to us ...
Elad.

You're right it turns out I have a SiS 648FX chipset, for which I downloaded the drivers, and everythin works fine now. Thanks!
