At Home screen resolution

Recently this problem just started. I have to reset the screen resolution each and every time I turn on or restart my computer. Is there a problem with the monitor or video card that is easily fixed?
Thank you,
heather Stranathan

Welcome to the forum!

What operating system are you using?

When I had this problem before, on W98se, I had to uninstall the card then reinstall it.

By uninstall I just mean deleting it from the device manager and rebooting....because usually windows will find the drivers on the reboot so its not a big hassle.

which video card is it?
Let's start with: Did you updated the drivers recently?
If not, update the video card's drivers as they could be the culprit!

Sorry to sound like a total moron, but first, how do I find out what video card, second, how do I update it? The machine was refurbished by a local "computer" guy, so I don't know what brand of components he used.
Thanks.

Ohh.. OK.

You can look at which components you have by going to My Computer, then go to Control Panel, then click on System (switch to classic view if you don't have this enabled).

Note: A quick shortcut for this is pressing the windows logo button on the keyboard and pressing the pause/break button on the keyboard at the same time.

You will go to the system properties and in here click on the tab called HARDWARE.
Then click on the button called: Device Manager

In there you will find everything.!

And as for the updating part you will have to go to the manufactures website and download drivers from there. If you need help finding or installing them just tell me (sometimes you have to search the site for 15 mins or more.)

I've had similar problems with Games resetting my resolution.....grrrrr@! Usually it's either a new program that is messing with your video settings, or somethings has gone awry with your drivers, like mentioned above.

Have you installed any new programs or made any changes before this happened?

i think maybe if you create a restore point after you set it how you like might fix that problem.

start, programs, accesories, system tools, system restore

choose: create restore point

I did this once and it helped .

good luck
