Kids looking for a good mobo/cpu combo

My first post ever!!

looking to build a new rig for myself. Dont know if i should stick with AMD or go with Intel.
My friend just built a new computer not to long ago with an Intel 3ghz cpu and asus P4C800 and all he has is problems with it. That is deturring me from getting Intel. I now have a AMD 1.2ghz athlon with a cheezy mobo with everything max'ed out on it. Never had or have any problems.
Now if I get an AMD 3.2+ or 3.0+, what is a good mobo and ram combo for it. Or if i get the Intel 3.2 I know not to get the Asus P4C800.
and i know that AMD is cheaper than intel anyday of the week

Suggestions please!?!?!?

wut about a case?

Welcome to the forum!

What are you going to use the computer for mainly..and what kind of budget are we talking about?

I noticed by looking at www.pricewatch.com that the price of a retail xp2100 was about $71 on newegg....and that I could get a Xp2100/mobo/heatsink combo for $71-$77 shipped from some of the vendors listed at pricewatch. So that from $1 to $7 for the motherboard, lol.

I suppose you might find the same thing true of the Xp3000ish range.

Of course..some of those vendors SUCK..so you need to check em out alittle first..go to www.resellerratings.com and look em up and read the feedback.

WOW! seems like your budget is pretty big, seeing as you consider the 3200+ and the p4 3.2...
for p4, you cant go wrong with a ABIT IC7-MAX3+p4 2.4c(or whatever), mad overclocking ensues
for AMD, the 2500+ and the a7n8x deluxe, also nice overclocking
case? hmm... the X-Superalien case from Aspire(TurboCase) seems like a good deal at ~$150, make sure you get one that comes with the 500w PS
